I hope that the discussions happening about Israel–particularly about how arguing for its abolition doesn’t equate to antisemitism–are helping people to understand more broadly that nationalists will always claim to be operating in the unified, sovereign interest of an entire group of people, ethnic, religious, etc. and that these claims cannot be trusted. The process of nation-building is a process of creating a national identity–by quashing dissident voices to create the illusion of a monolithic, unanimous national will–and of establishing national boundaries–by the use of force against resistance “internally” (i.e. within the initial territory the emerging nation-state claims as its own) and externally, as it expands.

Anyways, I cannot recommend Fredy Perlman’s essay on this topic enough, and to quote from him,

“Nationalism was so perfectly suited to its double task, the domestication of workers and the despoliation of aliens, that it appealed to everyone — everyone, that is, who wielded or aspired to wield a portion of capital. […] Languages, religions and customs became welding materials for the construction of nation-states.

The welding materials were means, not ends. The purpose of the national entities was not to develop languages, religions or customs, but to develop national economies, to turn the countryfolk into workers and soldiers, to turn the motherland into mines and factories, to turn dynastic estates into capitalist enterprises. Without the capital, there could be no munitions or supplies, no national army, no nation.”

SCREAMING

Today is the only day ever for the rest of time that you can reblog this

do you ever get really good at compartmentalizing pain to the point where you don’t feel it but you’re still impeded by it. like i’m in suffering but i’m not screaming since i’m not moving/agitating but i am not awake at 4 am by choice so it’s definitely “too much pain to sleep” but i have to like ANALYZE or accidentally hurt myself to realize that’s what’s happening

hi my name is Aster and my abusive mom expects me to pay 350 dollars a month to live in a tent in her backyard. im too disabled to work and failing out of school and I’d really really appreciate it if i could get some help buying a better space heater, a swamp cooler for the summer, and a rug for my tent so that dirt from outside doesn’t get tracked in too bad. i can provide proof about my situation if needed. anything helps.

I’ve been seeing this pick back up again recently, I think ppl have abandoned the effort to stop the spread of mass misuse of sociopolitical language that’s built specifically for black contexts & black use. But I haven’t 😘

Both “antiblack” & “nonblack” are terms created with the intention of communicating something particular to black experiences & racism. Replacing the “black” in these terms with other races or even other marginalized groups outside of racial contexts completely isn’t just exploitative of black ppls work but it also misrepresents the issues we’re discussing.

I’ve said this 100 times already, but “nonblack” serves to acknowledge all other groups as oppressors > black ppl. Applying it to other groups does not work bc not everyone occupies this same space in society, not everyone experiences oppression from all other groups, and it often is intentionally used as an antiblack dogwhistle to push the false narrative that black ppl do oppress other nbpoc. Here is a post where I talk about it some more.

Here is an article that explains that our status as oppressed by all other groups is an intrinsic part of the meaning of the term “antiblack”. Some quotes from it: “Anti-black racism is the specific exclusion and prejudice against people visibly of African descent…the term ‘anti-black racism’ is helpful and can help us unpick how and why racism affects different ethnic groups in different ways… People from other ethnic minority groups can enact anti-black policies and hold anti-black beliefs.” Again, “anti-[nonblack race]” implies a societal position that all groups do not hold.

Before you ask: 1) no, antisemitism is not appropriative or racist. It is its own term with its own historical use that wasn’t created as a ripoff of antiblack. 2) sometimes we can’t afford to not spread something bc it uses these terms. if you can, yes I do expect you to pass up a post that uses them. Whether you decide it’s best to reblog it still or not, I expect you to respectfully leave a comment bringing attention to the antiblack terminology. It shouldn’t be up to black people to address this by ourselves and it is not derailing to simply tell someone they said smthn antiblack.

I’m not arguing with racists about whether or not black people oppress nbpoc lol. I will just block you so don’t waste your time.

It’s bhm u can tip me for the time & energy I put into explaining & sharing information abt racism :) $heartemojie, @babiephace on venmo, paypal.me/13thead

anyway so i feel like the western obsession with romantic love is symptomatic of the absence of community we experience in our socially isolating society,

it’s the only type of love we’re really “allowed” to have and it’s really sad. i hope everyone realizes at some point that you don’t need to be dating someone to love them, and that you don’t need any romance just to be loved.

It’s harmful in so many ways. It’s harmful and isolating to people who don’t experience romantic love. It’s harmful to people who, for any reason, can’t be in a romantic relationship. It minimizes the importance of other forms of love and trivializes non-romantic relationships. And finally it harms people who are actually in romantic relationships by sending the message that your romantic partner should be the only person to fulfill all your emotional needs and vice versa.

It’s capitalism. In the 1950’s, white middle class people could afford to live in little tiny nuclear families, and corporations realized that if they segmented people that way then each household would have to buy their own lawnmower, their own car, their own whatever. By cutting us off from one another, they discourage sharing of resources and material goods and require that we each buy our own. This is why mutual aid is so critical.

There’s nothing wrong with romantic love. But there’s a lot of other types of love, too, and those are usually the ones that help us build community.

So my Scoliosis is rapidly getting worse. I can’t afford to buy a decent bed.. ive been looking around online and they are really expensive.. if I could raise $600 I’m sorry that I have to ask again… my health seems to be rapidly declining.. a lot is going on. losing muscle fairly quick, my body is always sore. when I get a decent rest which is rare, I’m able to function much better. I don’t have family or anyone in my life that is able to help.. with my cerebral palsy scoliosis and now finding out I have fibromyalgia, vision problems and god knows what’s next. I don’t feel good asking for help online but If I don’t swallow my pride and don’t  reach out then things will get worse like they have been. thank you to anyone that can help out. its greatly appreciated. I will also provide a picture of the mattress when it arrives.
